The Gospel: The Good News of Jesus Christ
There is no more urgent or personal question than this: What will you do with Jesus?
The Gospel is not just a set of religious ideas. It is the truth about who God is, who you are, and what has been done to save you. Every person is born a sinner in need of rescue, and that rescue is found in Christ alone.
This message is not just good news for the world; it’s good news for you! The Bible calls each of us to respond, not with casual interest, but with repentance and faith. What you believe about Jesus Christ is the most important thing about you.
You may feel like you’re too far gone, too broken, or too dirty for God, but the cross of Christ is proof that no one is beyond His reach. We invite you to read through the Gospel message below, consider what God has done for you in Jesus, and believe. He stands ready to welcome you into His family.
And if you’re already a follower of Christ, this message is for you too. As Martin Luther once said, “We need to hear the Gospel every day, because we forget it every day.” Read through this Gospel presentation to remind yourself of the Lord’s love for you and the grace in which you now stand.
1. God’s Design: Holy, Just, and Loving
God is the Creator of everything, including you. He is perfectly holy, completely just, and full of steadfast love. He made us in His image to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever. But from the beginning, humanity has rejected God’s authority, choosing our own way instead of His. (Isaiah 6:3, Psalm 145:17)
2. Our Problem: Sin and Separation
Every one of us has rebelled against God by what we’ve done and by what we’ve left undone. All of us are guilty. No one is exempt, and even the smallest sin is enough to separate us from a perfectly holy God. Sin is not just breaking rules; it's rejecting the Ruler. Because God is holy and just, He must judge sin. The punishment is not just physical death, but eternal separation from His grace, what the Bible calls hell. And here’s the hard truth: we cannot fix ourselves. We are spiritually dead and without hope in ourselves. But God did not leave us in our rebellion. (Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:1)
3. God’s Solution: Christ Crucified and Risen
Jesus Christ, God the Son, took on flesh and lived the life we could never live. He was perfectly obedient to God in every way, yet He willingly went to the cross. On that cross, He bore the wrath of God that we deserved. He became our substitute, taking on our sin and exchanging it for His righteousness. He died, was buried, and on the third day, rose again, conquering sin, death, and hell. After His resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven, where He is now seated at the right hand of the Father, reigning as King and interceding for His people. This was not plan B. This was God's plan from before the foundation of the world. Salvation belongs to the Lord. (Romans 5:8, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 1:23)
4. Our Response: Repent and Believe
The Gospel demands a response. God commands all people everywhere to repent, to turn from sin and self and trust in Christ alone for salvation. This is not about trying harder or cleaning yourself up first. It is about trusting the finished work of Jesus and surrendering your life to Him. When we believe, God forgives us, declares us righteous in His sight, adopts us into His family, and gives us His Spirit. Faith is not something we muster up on our own. It is a gift from God, by His grace. (Acts 3:19, John 3:36, Ephesians 2:8)
5. A New Life: Changed from the Inside Out
Salvation is not the end, it's the beginning. When God saves us, He gives us a new heart with new desires. We don’t follow Jesus to earn salvation. We follow Him because we’ve been saved, and we obey His commands out of gratitude for what He has already done. Through the Holy Spirit, He begins the lifelong work of shaping us into the image of Christ. We live by faith, walk in repentance, and grow in obedience, not in our own strength, but by God’s grace. (2 Corinthians 5:17, John 14:15)
6. Our Future: A Sure and Eternal Hope
Jesus is coming again to judge the living and the dead. For those in Christ, there is no fear in that day. We will dwell with Him forever in a new heavens and new earth where there is no more sin, sorrow, or death. This is the sure hope of every believer. (Revelation 21:4)
Will You Turn to Jesus?
If you’re reading this, know this: God may be calling you right now. Turn to Christ. Confess your sin. Believe in His finished work. Trust in His mercy. If you don’t know what to say, speak to Him from your heart. He hears the cries of the broken. (Romans 10:13)
